Beth

We have spent time over the last few weeks doing regular winter maintenance tasks on the plot, digging out and turning compost bins, getting mulch to put below the trees, clearing weeds etc. However we have gained a new tree, a pear tree of the variety Beth, this variety produces small juicy pears. We have placed her in the back left hand corner of Plot 82. . This area does have some mares tail in the soil, and so to try to get on top of this weed Beth has been planted with a mulch of cardboard as a base. This will stop some of the weeds getting through, a barrier layer. Then we have placed wood chippings on top This means as the mares tail comes through it should be easy to spot and remove. Over time this will reduce the amount of the weed on the plot. We are trying to not use chemicals on the plot to get rid of weeds, though our neighbor does. Even she is not free of the dreaded weed though, as if some is present on neighboring plots it will always try to reinstate it&#
